Elaine Donnelly vs. Lt. Dan Choi on AC360
October 7, 2009
Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (DADT) champion Elaine Donnelly, who I defended two weeks ago (I’m still trying to wash it off), was on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 last night with up-and-coming LGBT leader 1Lt. Dan Choi, debating DADT. It was, how you say, delicious.
Obviously I’m biased on the issue, but she did nothing but embarrass herself. Her facts were wrong and her condescension was palpable. (She was, after all, up against a gay man and she thinks he’s bad by definition.)

Did you catch that she called Lt. Choi Mister rather than Lieutenant? Nice touch, and right on par. To Donnelly, gay soldiers are recognized for nothing except libido. Service rank and heroism mean nothing to her.
Lt. Choi will be at the National Equality March this weekend. Saturday he will be placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery at noon and speaking at the Leonard Matlovich Memorial Service at the Congressional Cemetery Chapel at 2pm. On Sunday he is slated to speak at the big rally on the mall. Hope to see you there!

Wow, she made NO sense. Anderson kept interupting and coming back because of how incomprehensible this woman was. I joined Choi's laughter throughout the interview.
The only time she made sense was when she managed a coherent statement, that some military have stated they would quit if gays were allowed, or at least not forced to keep quiet about their orientation. Cheap shot. Are more LGBT soldiers being fired than straight soldiers quitting over their inclusion?
