Do you really think that if he punched a straight man who just happened to die from it, that he would have been charged with murder? I'm not sure how much this actually has to do with Hunter having been gay. Sure it was wrong to respond with violence - but he punched the guy, he didn't stab him in the chest with a knife, or shoot him in the head.
